Meet Connie McCarter
Connie McCarter's roots in Lakeland run deep. She has called Lakeland home for 35 years. Connie's connection goes back even further: her father, Jim Bomprezzi, served as Lakeland Mayor. Connie grew up watching what it meant to serve this community. She and her husband Jim have been married 29 years and are active members of Calvary Church, where faith and family have always shaped her values. Connie was instrumental in bringing back Lakeland's annual National Day of Prayer Observance.
Long before she ever sat on the Board of Commissioners, Connie built a 47-year career as a registered nurse. She earned her nursing diploma in 1979, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Union University in 1999, and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Memphis in 2011. For years she worked as a Clinical Development Specialist and Instructor with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, training nurses and healthcare providers across the Mid-South and earning certification in both Neuroscience Nursing and Nursing Professional Development. It's a career built on patience, precision, and caring — qualities that are extremely valuable in a City Hall environment.
Since taking office in December 2022, Connie has earned a reputation as the Board of Commissioners' most independent voice. Connie is willing to ask hard questions, and to vote 'No' when the numbers don't add up. Connie was appointed as Liaison to the Board of Education, to Lakeland's Neighborhood Watch Program, and to the PULSE Comprehensive Plan Board. Connie previously served on Lakeland's Board of Appeals/Stormwater Board of Appeals, and the Lakeland Comprehensive Development Plan Advisory Committee. Connie has a reputation of opposing unnecessary and reckless spending and has NEVER voted to increase taxes.
Connie treasures time with her family — husband Jim, stepson Justin, his wife Brooke, granddaughter Kaelea, and extended family Hunter, Amber, and Paisley — along with their two dogs, Cooper and Leo.
Connie asks for your vote to bring that same discipline, transparency, and hands-on leadership as Lakeland's Mayor!
